  • 6:00pm CT: The raid race took just under six hours to complete, and was truly a difficult contest mode. The final moments were exciting to watch as both teams came down to the wire. Bungie will soon confirm who won the race.
  • 5:51pm CT: It appears they’ve done it again. It looks like Elysium slayed Crota just over a minute faster than aTides and their squad, and it’s possible that they’ve just won their fourth world first title. Now we wait for Bungie to confirm the news and make it official. What an ending!
  • 5:45pm CT: It doesn’t get any closer than this. Elysium on the left, aTides and co. on the right. It’s neck and neck as both squads race to finish off the son of Oryx!

  • 5:39pm CT: Oh no. It happened again. Elysium just barely failed finishing Crota off once more, helped by Saltagreppo throwing his Solar hammer past the boss and forcing him to retrieve it and miss out on DPS. This was brutal.
  • 5:34pm CT: Crota just teleported away from Elysium in the middle of their second damage phase. Some things don’t change in nine years.
  • 5:27pm CT: Right after Elysium couldn’t finish the job, aTides and their team (a mixture of clans Sigh, Respire, and Passion) just killed Ir Yut and are now on Crota, too. This could get really interesting.
  • 5:24pm CT: No! Elysium failed to kill Crota before the Oversoul wiped the team! The raid race continues.
  • 5:19pm CT: Crota’s health is low, but he is in Enrage mode! It’s getting sweaty!
  • 5:15pm CT: Elysium has removed half of Crota’s initial health bar. This could be it.
  • 5:02pm CT: Elysium is on the cusp! They’ve cleared Ir Yut challenge and are now on the Crota boss fight again. It’s within their reach to become the only four-time world first raid race winners!
  • 4:50pm CT: Saltagreppo and co. remain in the lead, but other teams are pressing the issue. Tune in to continue to watch the final moments of the raid race!
  • 4:41pm CT: Elysium have extended their lead. They’ve finished the bridge encounter and are moving on to Ir Yut’s challenge.
  • 4:23pm CT: The squads are once again stuck on the bridge encounter, whether it be purely for completion, or for trying to figure out the challenge. It’s tough to tell without anyone using their mics on stream.
  • 4:16pm CT: aTides and co. have completed the Abyss challenge. Now they’re almost on the sam progress level as Elysium!
  • 4:01pm CT: Welcome to the party, Rxminiscxnt and Team Final Stand. They’ve just beaten Crota and are restarting on challenge mode.
  • 3:52pm CT: The grind continues. The majority of teams are still fighting Crota, while Elysium and atides’ clan are attempting to make their way through challenge mode, with Elysium currently still on the bridge encounter. This race still likely has a while left to go before a belt is awarded.
  • 3:39pm CT: aTides and their clan have cleared Crota and are restarting the raid in challenge mode! The race is on again, and anything can happen. Elysium continue to battle the bridge encounter.
  • 3:32pm CT: Elysium has cleared the Abyss on challenge mode. It’s unclear what they did differently because they have muted their voice comms to prevent others from stealing strategies. But they received double rewards, so on to the bridge they go.
  • 3:29pm CT: For each encounter, a hidden challenge must be completed. It’s up to the players to find out exactly what it is, but when the challenge is failed, a notification pops up on the left side of the screen. If the challenge is done properly, double rewards will drop at the end of the encounter. Now the heat is on Elysium as other teams will undoubtedly begin to defeat Crota soon, too.

We have reports that a team has defeated Crota and are now entering Challenge Mode.

Teams will need to complete Crota's End on both Normal and Challenge Mode to win World First.

It's still anyone's race! Who are you cheering on? pic.twitter.com/ouBb82pNeU

  • 3:15pm CT: And now the hard part truly begins. Elysium (and all other subsequent teams) now have to finish the raid all over again while completing a secret challenge in each encounter. Buckle in.
  • 3:14pm CT: Elysium have done it! A clutch last-second kill of Crota as the team got wiped by the Oversoul sends them into orbit and then back into the raid for challenge mode!
  • 3:09pm CT: There’s at least five teams that we know off currently fighting Crota. They can we watched on Saltagreppo, All_The_Players, Rxminiscxnt, aTides, and imBravo. Others are not far behind.
  • 3:00pm CT: This is truly a brutal battle, and a genuine Contest Mode difficulty. Whichever team wins this raid race will have definitely earned it.
  • 2:50pm CT: Elysium just dealt a little more than 50 percent damage to Crota’s HP bar that comes before the “final stand” segment! Could this be the run? No, they just wiped. The battle rages on!
  • 2:44pm CT: A surprise new challenger! Rxminiscxnt and clan DwyLoWTV are at Crota and just dealt the most damage seen thus far.
  • 2:40pm CT: A new competitor has entered the arena. Twitch streamer aTides are on Crota, but are struggling with DPS just like the other squads.
  • 2:35pm CT: Crota’s HP is astoundingly high. Both teams are struggling to make it to a second damage phase, and the first phase isn’t doing a ton to put a dent in his health bar, either.
  • 2:26pm CT: Meanwhile, Destiny 2 has jumped to near the top of Twitch viewership, behind only Just Chatting and new launch Starfield in viewer numbers!

  • 2:24pm CT: Now comes the time for teams to maximize their loadouts for DPS. Linear Fusion Rifles, rockets, Divinity, and all kinds of options are currently being tested by Unparalleled (ATP’s clan) and Elysium (Saltagreppo’s clan).
  • 2:18pm CT: In Destiny 1, it was the Swordbearer vs. Crota with the rest of the team bringing down his shields. Now, the sword brings down the shield and everyone must pitch in to deal damage. This is now a big-time DPS check boss fight.
  • 2:10pm CT: Whoa, a big change to the Crota fight! Crota can now be damaged by more than just the Swordbearer’s sword. Teams will need to bring their best DPS loadouts to take down this Hive God.
  • 2:04pm CT: Not to be outdone, Saltagreppo and Elysium are hot on Crota’s heels as well.
  • 1:58pm CT: ATP has done it again! Ir Yut has been vanquished, and it’s time for the final boss. Crota, son of Oryx, welcome to Destiny 2 (officially).
  • 1:56pm CT: All_The_Players have almost killed Ir Yut in the first DPS phase! If the squad can make it to another one, they will likely finish off the boss and move on to Crota!
  • 1:50pm CT: The teams have been unable to figure out how to remove Ir Yut’s shield to begin the DPS phase thus far.
  • 1:45pm CT: Math Class has joined the others at Ir Yut, and all teams who have made it this far are working to figure out the encounter.
  • 1:35pm CT: Saltagreppo and Elysium are also at Ir Yut, and the race continues. Keep in mind clearing the raid is only half the battle. Teams then must play it again and complete all encounter challenges correctly to be crowned world first champs.
  • 1:30pm CT: The Ir Yut encounter is a race against the clock, as the Deathsinger will wipe the team if the encounter is not completed and finished correctly in time. ATP seems to be one of the only teams at this encounter thus far.
  • 1:21pm CT: All_The_Players has cleared the bridge! A massive team of Gatekeeper Knights spawn at the end of the encounter, but they survived and are moving on to the Deathsinger encounter.
  • 1:19pm CT: This seems to be a case of Contest Mode rearing its head. Teams have figured out the mechanics, but are struggling to stay alive vs. the high health enemies.
  • 1pm CT: The teams have hit a wall with the bridge encounter. The difficulty level has definitely been amped up in this Contest Mode, answering player complaints from Root of Nightmares, which was deemed too easy by hardcore raid racers.
  • 12:45pm CT: The Gatekeeper Knights have a lot of health. Teams are struggling with taking down their huge HP pools to progress the encounter and survive the fight. Other squads, including three-time raid champions Saltagreppo and Elysium, have made it to the bridge encounter now.
  • 12:41pm CT: The Knights on the other side of the bridge are Champions. Welcome to Destiny 2!
  • 12:30pm CT: Datto and Math Class have now cleared the Abyss, and the race is heating up!
  • 12:25pm CT: The Chalice of Light and Enlightened buff continue on in the second encounter, which sees Guardians standing on platforms and killing enemies to build a bridge to cross into the next area.
  • 12:20pm CT: All_The_Players on Twitch has cleared the Abyss encounter and have moved on to the bridge encounter!
  • 12:15pm CT: Progress is being made, as players have begun to figure out how to use the new mechanics to traverse the Abyss. No one has completed the opening encounter just yet.
  • 12:07pm CT: Players are attempting to figure out how the Chalice of Light and Enlightened buff work. This is an all-new mechanic added to the existing encounter.
  • 12:04pm CT: Here comes the Abyss encounter. In the original raid, players need to cleanse their darkness at lamps throughout the encounter. Now, it appears the Chalice of Light is also needed to traverse the Abyss.
  • 12:01pm CT: The raid is already different. An item called a Chalice of Light is found at the start of the raid before players even jump into the Hellmouth.
  • 12pm CT: And they’re off! The raid is live and everyone is loading in. Good luck to all raiders!
  • 11:52am CT: The fireteams are waiting in orbit and the raid’s start is now less than 10 minutes away. It’s time to return to the pit of the Hellmouth on the moon and see what’s new in Crota’s End this time around!
  • 11:45am CT: Will this finally be the raid for Datto and Math Class to take home a world first title? He’s come close a couple times, and they’re likely the fan favorite to finally bring home a win today. Meanwhile, Saltagreppo and Clan Elysium are looking for their fourth raid belt.

  • 11:30am CT: The Crota’s End live stream on Twitch Rivals is now live! Tune in for looks at multiple perspectives throughout the race.
  • 11:00am CT: To earn the honor of being world first raid winners for Crota’s End in Destiny 2, teams need to first complete the raid and then queue up again to complete special challenges for each encounter. The first team to do so and then return to orbit will be crowned winners.
  • 10:55am CT: Crota’s End is filled with some memorable encounters, like the dark pit opening encounter, the bridge, or the Deathsingers fight. But now, the raid has been reworked so it won’t function exactly as it did in the original game.
  • 10:50am CT: Good morning, Guardians. Who’s ready for another raid race in Destiny 2? This time it’s a familiar foe with some twists. Crota’s End, from Destiny 1’s The Dark Below expansion, has returned. It was originally released way back in 2014, but Crota’s once again here to swing his sword and wipe fireteams.

The raid race begins in earnest at 11:30am CT on Sept. 1 on the Twitch Rivals pre-show, where Twitch will be hosting the raid race and switching perspectives between players and teams participating in the race. The race itself kicks off when the raid goes live at 12pm CT.

The rest of the competitors can be seen from their perspective in the Destiny 2 Twitch directory. No matter who you watch, a new emblem can be earned as part of Twitch drops throughout the duration of the raid race.

What is Contest Mode in Crota’s End?

Bungie has detailed what’s new or different about Contest Mode in Crota’s End, which will be enabled for the first 48 hours of the raid’s availability. Here’s the info straight from the dev.

  • You will need to be at 1790 Power to be at the cap for all of the encounters to take the raid on.
  • Clearing the raid with Contest Mode active is the first step to accessing the Challenge Mode in the Director and the special Superior Swordplay Triumph with the challenges for each encounter.
  • To complete the Superior Swordplay triumph, a fireteam must complete a curated list of challenges in this Challenge Mode and claim the triumph to snag that World First title and that sweet, sweet belt.
  • To enforce the Triumph requirements in Challenge Mode, your fireteam will wipe if you fail the success conditions during any encounter.

After player complaints of Contest Mode during the Root of Nightmares raid earlier this year, Bungie has tweaked some difficulty settings for the first 48 hours.

  • Increased the cap of player outgoing damage vs. combatants. Keep in mind that the incomingdamage capdid not change.
  • Some enemies will gain elemental shields.
  • All enemies will be more aggressive than in the previous Contest Mode.
